Description
After noticing some white fluff on my Hosta plant stems, I got out my macro lens for a view. . .and this strange creature is what I saw! As far as I can tell, it is a planthopper nymph--Genus Acanalonia. This little guy was less than1/8 inch in size and will mature into a "full-size" planthopper which is about 1/4 inch or more in size . They are quite bizarre looking and probably seen by few persons due to their small size. I especially find their fluffy tail a fascinating addition to this strange insect. This fluff often hides much of the body (which is what I saw on the plant stems), but this particular one provided more of a clear view.
