Description
Burning Bush (Euonymus alatus) is a colorful deciduous shrub often used as an ornamental landscaping plant. In the spring and summer it is covered in a beautiful shade of green which then transitions to a brilliant, fire-red color in the fall. A bush covered in its colorful fall foliage can appear to be on fire, thus the common name, Burning Bush. A native of Asia, it was introduced to the U.S. around 1860 as an ornamental plant for use in landscaping. Though still commonly used in landscaping today, it is considered an invasive plant in some areas as it can replace native shrubs in woodland habitats and alter the structure of natural plant communities.
