Description
Bethlehem, Pennsylvania was founded by Moravians in 1741. Many of the original buildings are preserved and/or restored in the historic district. The town takes advantage of its name at Christmas time with lots decorations and holiday activities. This was a decorated doorway on the Goundie House located in the historic district. The 1810 Goundie House, built by Moravian town brewer and business man John Sebastian Goundie, is believed to be the first brick residence in Bethlehem and the first private home to reflect the new architectural American Federal style rather than the German Colonial style. Today, the Goundie House is a contributing property to the Historic Moravian Bethlehem National Historic Landmark District.
