Description
The 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption in the state of Washington was the most destructive volcanic eruption in U.S. history. Everything within eight miles of the blast was wiped out almost instantly, but in the years since then, the land has been healing and recovering much of its natural beauty. Walks along trails at the Johnston Ridge Observatory located on the west side of Mount St. Helens National Monument, offer views of the still flattened trees on distant hills but also many scenes of life returning with the emerging of new trees, plants, and beautiful wildflowers.
