Description
Buonconsiglio Castle is a castle in Trento, northern Italy. The castle originated from a fortified building that was erected in the 13th century next to the city's walls. It is composed of a series of buildings of different eras, enclosed by a circle of walls in a slightly elevated position above the town. Over the years the castle had decayed but then in the 1920's it was restored and became the seat of a National Museum. Since 1992 it is home to the Provincial Gallery of Art. Valuable baroque and gothic frescoes line the interior walls. Girolamo Romanino, an Italian High Renaissance painter frescoed the loggia seen here with typical Renaissance themes. The loggia leads out to the Lions' Court (Cortile dei Leoni) which is the historic center of the castle.
