Description
Mt. Shasta is a majestic, steep-sided stratovolcano located in Northern California at the southern end of the Cascade Range in Siskiyou County. The mountain and surrounding area are part of the Shasta–Trinity National Forest. Even though it is a potentially active volcano, the last significant eruption on Mount Shasta may have occurred about two centuries ago. At an elevation of 14,179 feet (4321.8 m), it is the second-highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth-highest in the state. Lake Siskiyou is a reservoir formed by Box Canyon Dam on the Sacramento River that is the site of local recreation, as well as being used for watershed protection and flood control. Lake Siskiyou Trail, a 7-mile hiking trail which completely encircles the lake, offers beautiful scenery around the lake and fantastic views of Mount Shasta,
