Description
Hearst Castle, a hilltop mansion built by William Randolph Hearst, is located along the beautiful Central Coast of California in the tiny town of San Simeon. The outdoor Neptune Pool on the castle grounds was commissioned by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst in 1924, at the height of his enormous wealth. The 104-foot-long pool is a brilliant stretch of sparkling blue water floating over thousands of marble tiles. it is bright and eye-catching—just as architect Julia Morgan intended. This Italian-inspired masterpiece evokes ancient Greece and Rome with marble statues of Neptune and Nereid guarding over the aquatic paradise. As the castle is located on top of a hill it can frequently be shrouded in fog and mist, adding an air of mystery to views of this opulent pool.
