Description
The Pemaquid Point Light is a historic U.S. lighthouse located in Bristol, Lincoln County, Maine, at the tip of the Pemaquid Neck. The very first light here was built in 1827 but because the builder used salt water for the mortar instead of fresh water it soon started to crumble. So the first light was torn down and the one that still stand today was constructed in 1835. It is 39 feet tall and has a 4th order Fresnel Lens that is still in use. Visitors can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse and also visit the educational fishermen's museum located in the keeper's house. An image of the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is depicted on the Maine quarter.
