Description
The Poole Forge Covered Bridge, built in 1859, spans the Conestoga River in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is part of a once vibrant iron plantation, dating from the 1700's, that consists of the iron masters mansion, paymasters house, tenant houses, and lime kilns. Historical records tell us that before James Buchanan became president, he met his fiance at Poole Forge, but she died before they could be married and he became our country's only bachelor president.
