Description
Port Orford, Oregon has the only natural, open-water port for 600 miles and it is quite unique. The natural harbor at the north end of Port Orford Bay has one of only two "dolly docks" in the US and six in the world, where gigantic hoists lift the vessels in and out of the water each day. The harbor area is too shallow for safe mooring, and when not on the ocean, the boats are parked in rows on the dock, cradled in custom-made trailers that are easily pulled around by pickup trucks. A working fishing port, the Port Of Port Orford is home to almost 30 commercial fishing boats.
