Artist's Description

Built in 1832, the South Perkasie Covered Bridge once crossed Pleasant Spring Creek until in 1958 it was deemed unsafe for vehicular traffic. It was then moved by the Perkasie Historical Society to a nearby spot in Lenape Park in order to preserve this historic bridge which is the oldest covered bridge in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The old sign above the entrance still remains. It states "$5 fine for any person riding or driving over this bridge faster than a walk or smoking segars on." Segars (cigars) were an obvious danger to these all wooden structures.
