Description
Wellsboro, Pennsylvania was incorporated in 1830 and was named in honor of Mary Wells, wife of one of the original settlers, Benjamin Wistar Morris. With its gaslight lined streets and its quaint small-town Victorian charm, Wellsboro Pa. not only serves as the Tioga County Pa. seat, but is a stopping point for visitors to the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. A familiar landmark in the town is a cast bronze statue of children's literature characters Wynken, Blynken and Nod that was erected in the center fountain of the town square and was dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth Bailey, the wife of community leader Fred Bailey.
