Description
While taking photos in a sunflower field, I found this weed growing among the sunflowers at the edge of the field. This tall plant has distinctly beaked fruit, the sides of which resemble the crimped edges of a pie crust, which is how it got its common name of Pie-maker. It is also called Velvetleaf (Abutilon theoprasti). The fiber, China jute, used especially in making rugs, can be obtained from the stem. An out-of-focus sunflower is visible in the background.
