Description
The huge Pisan Romanesque cathedral (Duomo), with its carved pulpit, is artistically more important than its more famous leaning bell tower. The 15-foot tall octagonal pulpit was created by Giovanni Pisano who left no space of the creamy white marbled uncarved in his pursuit of beauty. Four hundred intricately sculpted figures smother the pulpit. Around the top of the pulpit, Christ's life unfolds in a series of panels saturated with carvings.
