Artist's Description

South Perkasie Covered Bridge is a historic wooden covered bridge located in Perkasie, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1832, and is a 93-foot-long (28 m) Town truss covered bridge. A lattice bridge is a form of truss bridge that uses a large number of small and closely spaced diagonal elements that form a lattice. It was patented by architect Ithiel Town in 1820 and 1835 as Town's lattice truss. The purpose of the a bridge being covered is to protect the wooden structural members from the weather. Uncovered wooden bridges have a life span of only 10 to 15 years because of the effects of rain and sun. These all-wooden structures were vulnerable to fires so no "segars" (cigars) were allowed on these bridges as noted on the sign above the entrance to this bridge. The South Perkasie Covered Bridge was moved to its current location in Lenape Park in 1958 and is the oldest covered bridge in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

While I initially did nature and especially macro (close-up) photography, my interests have expanded into photography from travels, scenes of local interest, historic buildings, and basically any interesting image I happen to come across! Since I have taken up photography, my enjoyment of the...
