Artist's Description

Lunenburg is a historic port town located on the southern shores of Nova Scotia, Canada. Even though tourism is the most important industry today, the town has a history of being an important seaport and shipbuilding center with three active shipyards still functioning. Following this tradition, The Dory Shop in Lunenburg has been building handbuilt dories for almost a century. The dory has functioned as a fishing vessel for centuries. They were inexpensive to build and could be stacked or nested inside each other and stored on the decks of larger fishing vessels which functioned as mother ships. The dories built today are mostly used for pleasure.
