The white-winged dove is a frequently spotted bird around the saguaro cactus plants especially in the springtime and plays an important role in the life cycle of the saguaro cactus but it is a mutually dependent relationship. White-winged doves are saguaro specialists, and they rely on saguaros almost solely for nutrients and water during the breeding season. In turn, they pollinate the flowers of the saguaro cactus, and spread the seeds of the cactus to new places. The white winged dove is so dependent on the saguaro cactus that they synchronize their migration into the Sonoran Desert with the reproductive cycle of saguaro cactus.
Nature has always played a significant role in my life. On walks with my dad when I was a child, I was taught to notice the world around me and appreciate the wonder of nature and all of God's creation. To this day, being out in nature is balm for my soul and necessary for my well-being.
