Description
The Grand Canyon's excellent display of layered rock is not only stunning in its beauty but also invaluable in unraveling the regions geologic history. The Grand Canyon National Park is one of the most diverse and heavily studied places on earth for its geological uniqueness and amazing formations. The Canyon itself was carved by the Colorado River and the wind that caused the surface of the sedimentary rocks to become exposed and erode over time. This layered view, highlighted by sunlight, was viewed from the path in front of the North Rim Lodge.
