Description
The Schlern (Sciliar in Italian) region in Italy is full of mythological creatures and legendary beings whose existence is interwoven with the natural world and especially the mountains. According to local legend, witches long ago met every Thursday on the ridge of the Sciliar Mountain in the Dolomites where they partook in black magic rituals and danced with the devil. The witches were thought to summon torturous thunderstorms around the mountain. Today, witches are a mascot for the area and appear on gift shop merchandise and information brochures. Based on its distinct shape, the Sciliar/Schlern is also a South Tyrol landmark. It looks quite peaceful in this scene with cattle grazing in a meadow and wildflowers blooming. A ski lift station is visible in the left bottom corner.
