Artist's Description

Monhegan Island,10 miles offshore from mid-coast Maine, has a long history of being the first stop for many mariners approaching the Maine coast. Shortly after Maine became a state in 1820, demands were made for the establishment of a navigational beacon on Monhegan Island. By 1824 a lighthouse and adjacent buildings were built on the highest part of the island. Over the years, the light tower and nearby frame buildings have been restored and the lightkeepers house now is the home of the Monhegan Museum of Art and History. Today Monhegan Island is a picturesque summer haven for artists and vacationers. A walk to the lighthouse grounds is a popular activity for visitors as the hilltop location offers majestic overviews of the island.

Nature has always played a significant role in my life. On walks with my dad when I was a child, I was taught to notice the world around me and appreciate the wonder of nature and all of God's creation. To this day, being out in nature is balm for my soul and necessary for my well-being.
