Description
Starflower (Trientalis borealis) is one of the more common spring wildflowers in eastern North America. The starflower gains its common name from its star-shaped flowers, which remain intact when they fall from the plant. These perennial herb plants generally bloom from mid to late spring into early summer. Their habitat preference is open to dappled shade in moist woods and I found many Starflowers blooming as I was taking a late spring walk in the mountain forests and meadows of northeasterm Pennsyvlania. The white flowers added a bright spot to the normally shaded locations where they were located. . .especially when the rays of sun shone through the trees to highlight these simple beauties!
