Description
The flowers of Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) form one to two large teardrop-shaped green pods containing seeds that ripen inside the pods at varying
times. Between mid to late September, the pods begin to dry out and fade from a light green to a golden brown color as they ripen. When mature, the pods burst open, releasing the seeds with their silky fluff to scatter in the wind to reseed for the next season. A few seed stragglers are still waiting to launch from this split open golden pod.
