Description
The Eastern Comma Butterfly (Polygonia comma) lives in the eastern half of the United States east of the Rocky Mountains. This butterfly can be found in deciduous woodlands; woods near rivers, marshes, swamps, and other water sources. Their heavily scalloped, uneven wing shapes place Eastern Commas in a group of butterflies descriptively known as “anglewings.” They tend to be slightly smaller than their close relatives, Question Marks, but this difference may be hard to discern in the field. (I hope I have this identification correct!)
