Description
Hogan, which means home to the Navajo, are sun-baked mud-covered homes. You can still see these traditional homes near a modern structured home in Monument Valley and other Navajo lands since these homes are still, at times, used by the elderly and for ceremonial purposes. Hogans are made of natural materials; cedar, barks, sand and water, with the door facing east to welcome the rising sun for good wealth and fortune. With a simple fire, the heat retains for long hours in the winter. During the summer, the temperature is always 25% cooler than the outside temperature.
