Description
This view from inside the Roman Colosseum in Rome, Italy, looks through one of the 80 entrance arches, known as vomitoria, which allowed the spectators to enter and be seated in a matter of minutes. The Colosseum's huge crowd capacity made it essential that the venue could be filled or evacuated quickly. Its architects adopted solutions very similar to those used in modern stadiums to deal with the same problem.
