Description
The John Moulton residence, also known as the "Pink House", is located on Mormon Row, a famously historic area south of Grand Tetons National Park in northwest Wyoming. In the 1890s, Mormon settlers from Idaho established 27 homesteads in the Jackson Hole area. John Moulton was one of the early settlers in this area and ran a successful dairy farm for many years. In 1934 he had this stucco house built to replace their original log cabin. The story given regarding the color is that while John's wife, Bartha was in the hospital, John wanted to do something special to commemorate her homecoming. He knew that she had wanted to repaint the house, and due to a small mix-up, chose the salmon pink color. When Bartha came home, she despised the color but so loved the sentiment behind it, that it was never changed.
