Description
Porter Preserve is a 23-acre nature preserve on the southern tip of Barters Island near Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Trails meander through old growth spruce, oak and pine forests and along a half-mile of shore front on the Sheepscot and Back Rivers with lovely scenic vistas. This part of a trail through the forest requires careful walking with the many exposed tree roots crossing the path since Maine's rocky coast forces some tree roots to grow close to the surface. The sea air also encourages the growth of bright green moss in the forest which just adds to the beauty of this natural scene.
