Description
Pulteney Park is the original village green at the center of Geneva, New York, as surveyed and laid out in 1794. The Park overlooks Seneca Lake and is located in the historic district of Geneva. A pool with a stone statue called "Peace" that faces Seneca Lake is located in the center of the Park. Meant to commemorate three wars (the Civil War, Spanish American War and World War I), the fountain basin is made from “Georgia Pink” marble and the statue is of Cherokee gray marble, both from the same quarry. The sculptress is Jean MacKay Henrich of Buffalo, who studied her craft at The Art Institute of Chicago. The road that loops around the Park is lined with historic rowhouses and this picturesque victorian gothic-style church. The church, built in 1839, is located on the site of the original log school which was the forerunner of Hobart College. Geneva is located at the northern end of Seneca Lake, one of the finger lakes of New York State.
