Description
The Temple of Literature in Hanoi, Vietnam, was founded in 1070, almost 1000 years ago, by Emperor Ly Thanh Tong as a temple to worship the Chinese philosopher Confucius and also hosted the Imperial Academy, Vietnam's first national university. Today, it is popular with Vietnamese students from across the country who come here to seek good luck blessings and a spot where students traditionally gather to hold graduation ceremonies and take graduation photos. These happy students, watched over by their teacher, are lined up between a Banyan tree and the Khue Van Cac pavilion. The Khue Van Cac (Pavilion of Constellation), is a unique architectural work built in 1805 that is a symbol for Hanoi and is featured on the back of the 100,000 Vietnam dong banknote.
